Under Oak Cottage
ROUTE 1 VIA BAINSKLOOF PASS (VERY SCENIC – DAYLIGHT ROUTE)
Take the N1 north and at Klupmuts/Stellenbosch off ramp, turn left onto the R44 to Wellington. When arriving in Wellington, proceed via Church street to Bainskloof Pass. This is a very scenic pass and the road leads straight where you want to go. Keep straight until you get to a T-junction. Turn left on the R43. At the “Hoogwater” sign, turn left onto the gravel road. Continue for 200 m and turn right at the T-junction. Pass through 2 motor gates (white walls). Turn left. When you pass a house with blue gum trees, turn left. The first entrance on your right , is “Viljoensdrif”. In front of the gate, turn right and follow the “Under Oak Cottage” sign. The gravel road leads you to “Under Oak Cottage”.
ROUTE 2 VIA NUWEKLOOF PASS
Follow Route 1 as far as Wellington. Before you enter Wellington, keep left on the R44 marked Ceres until it change to the R46. Keep on the R46 through the Nuwekloof Pass towards Wolseley and Ceres. Turn right at the Wolseley sign. Proceed through Wolseley until you get a T-junction. Turn right on the R43. Just after you went over the bridge, there’s a sign “Hoogwater”. There you turn right on the gravel road. Then proceed as above (ROUTE 1).
ROUTE 3: VIA HUGENOT’S TUNNEL/DU TOIT’S KLOOF PASS VIA SLANGHOEK
PS: The Slanghoek route should not be taken after recent rains as you could be caught by a flooding.
Take the N1 north and continue through the Hugenot’s tunnel. On the far side of the Du Toits Kloof Pass, you will turn right at the first opportunity. The sign is marked “Rawsonville”. You will continue for about 3 – 4 km (not measured – an estimate). Take the first turn off left at the “Slanghoek” sign. Continue on this road through the Slanghoek Valley past the Slanghoek Winery. It takes you over the Breede River to a T-junction. Turn left on the R43. Keep going until you get a “Hoogwater” sign. Turn left onto the gravel road. Continue for 200m and turn right at the T-junction. Keep going on the gravel road. Pass through 2 motor gates (white walls). When you pass a house with bluegum trees, turn left. The first entrance on your right, is “Viljoensdrif”. Infront of the gate, turn right and follow the “Under Oak Cottage” signs. The gravel road leads you to Under Oak Cottage.
ROUTE 4: VIA HUGENOT’S TUNNEL /DU TOITS KLOOF PASS AND GOUDINI WEG
Follow the above instructions as far as the Slanghoek turn off. Here you do not turn left, but continue another km or 2 and turn left at the “Goudini Weg” sign. Keep on the road until you come to a T-junction. Turn right. After 5km, turn left on the R43 and follow ROUTE 3.

Routes to Under Oak Cottage
VARIOUS ROUTES TO UNDER OAK COTTAGE FROM CAPE TOWN

The first entrance on your right, will be ‘Viljoensdrif’. In front of the gate, turn right and follow the “Under Oak Cottages” sign. The gravel road will lead you to the “key collection” safety box.
ROUTE 2 VIA NUWEKLOOF PASS
Follow Route 1 as far as Wellington. Before you enter Wellington, keep left on the R44 marked “Ceres” until it changes to the R46. Keep on the R46 through the Nuwekloof Pass towards Wolseley and Ceres. Turn right at the “Wolseley” sign. Proceed through Wolseley until you get a T-junction. Turn right on the R43. Just after driving over the bridge, there’s a sign “Hoogwater”. There you turn right on the gravel road. Then you proceed as above (ROUTE 1).
